What is Split?

Split is a simple money app with one job: every payday, it shows you exactly how to divide your check across bills, savings, and investing, so your money has a plan before it disappears. Set it up once, and every payday after that takes about a minute.

Is Split free?

Yes, the core app is free. Split Premium adds payday detection, live bank balances, your money kept and its milestones, Future scenarios, and your whole paycheck history, for $7.99/month or $59.99/year. New subscribers get 7 days free on the yearly plan. During early access, invited members get Premium free.

Do I have to connect my bank?

Nope. Split works fully with numbers you type in yourself. Connecting accounts is optional and part of Premium, and it makes your balances update automatically.

Is it safe to connect my accounts?

Yes. Connections are handled by Plaid, the same service used by apps like Venmo. Everything is read only, which means Split can read the accounts you choose to share, but we can't move money, make changes to your accounts, or see your login credentials.

Split reads your account names and balances. With payday detection, it also checks your recent deposits for your paycheck. Either way, we never store your transactions.

How does payday detection work?

When your bank reports new transactions, or when you open the app, Split checks your connected accounts for new deposits. If one looks like your paycheck, Split asks you before doing anything. It remembers a fingerprint of who pays you, not their name, so it gets better at spotting the next one. It runs while a bank is connected, and disconnecting your last bank deletes what it learned. Payday detection is part of Premium, because it needs a connected bank.

Will Split send me notifications?

Only payday alerts, and only in the iPhone app if you allow them. When a deposit that looks like your paycheck shows up, Split sends one alert: “Payday, Jake. Your plan’s ready.” There’s no amount unless you turn on “Show amounts in alerts,” and nothing between 9 PM and 7 AM. It arrives when your bank reports the deposit, usually the same day. Turn alerts off anytime in Settings.

Can Split move or spend my money?

No. Split is a planning and tracking tool, not a bank. It never holds, moves, or invests your money. You see the plan, and you make the moves.

Which banks and accounts work?

Thousands of banks and credit unions work through Plaid, including checking, savings, credit cards, loans, and most investment accounts. A few institutions limit what they share with any app. Robinhood currently doesn't allow apps like Split to read account data, and some crypto platforms are the same way. For those, just enter your balance manually. It takes about ten seconds.

What about crypto?

Add it as a balance. Turn on Crypto in Settings under What you track, then enter the total from your exchange or wallet. Split doesn't connect to wallets or exchanges.

I don't get paid every two weeks. Does Split still work?

Yes. Split supports weekly, biweekly, semi-monthly, and monthly pay, and if your income is irregular, you can log each check as it arrives. Split builds the plan around what actually came in.

Does Split tell me what to invest in?

No. Split shows you a plan for your paycheck and estimates for your future based on the numbers you enter, but it doesn't pick investments or give personalized financial advice. Those calls are yours, and the big ones deserve a professional.

How do I put Split on my phone?

Open splitmoney.app in your phone's browser, then tap Share and choose Add to Home Screen. Split installs like a regular app, no app store needed.

How do I cancel Premium?

Anytime, in Settings under Manage subscription. You keep Premium through the period you've already paid for. To avoid being charged after a free trial, cancel before the end date shown in Settings. No hoops.

How do I delete my data?

Delete your account yourself under Settings › Delete account, or email support@splitmoney.app from your account email and we'll do it for you. You can also disconnect any linked account in the app instantly.
