Split ("Split," "we," "us," or "our") is operated by Split Technologies LLC, a California limited liability company. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, how we protect it, and the choices you have. It applies to the Split app and website at splitmoney.app and splitmoneyapp.netlify.app, along with any future Split domains and mobile apps (together, the "Service").
We built Split to help people take control of their money. Because financial information is sensitive, we take privacy seriously and collect as little as we can. We've written this policy in plain English on purpose — if anything is unclear, email us at support@splitmoney.app and a human will answer. By using the Service, you agree to this Privacy Policy. If you don't agree, please don't use the Service.
1. Information we collect
We collect only what's needed to make Split work for you.
Information you provide
- Account information. Your email address when you create an account. If you sign in with Google or with Apple, we receive your email address, and from Google your basic profile information, to create and secure your account. If you use Apple's Hide My Email, the only address we ever see is the private relay address Apple gives us.
- Financial details you enter. The numbers you choose to enter — income, monthly bills, account balances, debts, financial goals, age, pay frequency, and your saved paycheck history. This powers your splits, net worth tracking, and projections.
- Preferences. Settings you choose, like your investing style, theme, and which account types you've turned on.
Information collected automatically
- Basic technical data. We and our infrastructure providers collect standard technical information such as your IP address, browser and device type, approximate location, timestamps, log data, and error reports — used for security, troubleshooting, reliability, and counting page views on our website. Some of this is collected by our service providers on our behalf. We don't use advertising trackers, and we don't build a profile of you.
- Cookies and similar technologies. Split uses cookies and similar technologies (such as local storage) to keep you signed in, remember your preferences, and keep the app functioning properly.
Bank connections (optional)
Split offers an optional feature to securely connect your bank, savings, and investment accounts so balances update automatically, through our trusted partner Plaid Inc. ("Plaid").
- This feature is optional — you choose whether to connect an account. If you choose not to connect financial accounts, Split still works using the information you enter manually.
- Plaid facilitates a secure, read-only connection. By default it retrieves your institution name, your account names and types, and your current balances, so Split can display and organize them for you. If you turn on the optional subscription scan described below, it also retrieves your recent transactions — that is the only thing that reads them, and it is off unless you start it.
- Account-holder details stay with Plaid. To establish the connection, Plaid also collects the account-holder information your bank has on file, such as your name and address. Split does not request, receive, or store it.
- Split never receives or stores your bank login credentials. Those are handled directly by Plaid.
- Even with a connected account, Split only reads information. It does not move money, make transfers, or place trades.
Subscription scan (Premium, opt-in)
Split can look through your recent transactions to find repeating charges, so you can see what you're paying for every month. Here is exactly how that works, because it is the most sensitive thing Split does.
- It only happens if you ask for it. The first scan only happens when you press the button. After that, Split refreshes the list when you open Accounts, at most once a day. Remove your results and it stops. If you never press it, Split never reads a single transaction. It is available on Premium plans.
- What it reads. When you run a scan, Split requests up to 400 days of transactions from the accounts you have connected. Your bank shows you this permission when you connect, listed as transactions.
- We never store your transaction history. Your transactions travel from Plaid, through Split's server, to your device, where the scan runs. They are not written to our database, not written to our logs, and not saved on your device. Once the scan finishes, they are gone.
- What we do keep is the result. A list of the subscriptions the scan found — the merchant's name, how much it charges, how often, and the dates it saw — plus anything you mark as keeping, cancelling, or not a subscription. That list is stored with your account so it is there when you come back.
- You can remove it at any time. "Remove scan results" deletes that list from your device and from our servers. You can also simply never scan again.
- Split does not cancel anything for you, and does not contact any merchant on your behalf. Marking a subscription is a note to yourself.
- We do not analyse your spending, build a profile of you, or categorise your purchases, and we never sell or share any of this. The scan looks for repetition and nothing else.
2. How we use your information
We use the information we collect to:
- Provide the core Split features — splitting your paycheck, tracking net worth, and projecting your finances over time;
- Create, secure, and maintain your account, and keep your data in sync across devices;
- Process Premium subscription payments;
- Respond to your support requests;
- Keep the Service secure and prevent fraud or abuse;
- Comply with our legal obligations.
We do not sell your personal information, share your financial information with advertisers, or create advertising profiles based on your information.
3. Payments
Split offers an optional paid subscription, "Split Premium." Payments made on splitmoney.app are processed securely by Stripe, Inc. ("Stripe"). Purchases made inside the iOS app are processed by Apple through the App Store.
- Your payment is handled directly by Stripe or by Apple. Split does not collect or store your card or banking numbers in either case.
- We receive limited information from Stripe to manage your subscription, such as your email and whether your subscription is active.
- From Apple we receive only a transaction identifier and whether the subscription is active. Apple does not share your name, email address, or payment details with Split.
4. How your information is stored and protected
- Where it lives. Your account and the details you enter are stored in a secure cloud database provided by Supabase, our backend infrastructure provider.
- A copy on your device. To keep Split fast and usable offline, a copy of your Split data — your pay plan, bills, balances, net worth, and your subscription list if you have run a scan — is stored locally in your browser on the devices you use. This copy is cleared when you sign out.
- Locked to your account. Access controls ensure only you, signed in, can view or change your information. Other users can't see your data.
- Security measures. We use industry-standard practices, including encryption in transit and at rest, and authenticated, access-controlled storage. Access to production systems is limited to authorized personnel who need it to operate and maintain Split.
- No system is perfectly secure. We work hard to protect your information, but no method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, and we can't guarantee absolute security. If a breach affecting your personal information ever occurs, we'll notify you as the law requires.
6. Your rights and choices
- Access and update. View and update most of your information directly in the app anytime.
- Delete your account. You can do this yourself in the app, under Settings › Delete account. It cancels any subscription, disconnects any linked bank, and removes your data from our active systems. You can also email support@splitmoney.app from your account email and we'll do it for you. Backups purge on a rolling basis after that.
- Export. Ask us for a copy of your data and we'll provide it.
- Disconnect bank accounts. If you've connected an account through Plaid, you can disconnect it anytime in the app. This ends our access through Plaid.
- Cancel Premium. Cancel your subscription anytime.
- Email preferences. Unsubscribe links in every non-essential email.
California residents: the rights above cover the access, deletion, and disclosure rights in the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA/CPRA). We don't sell or "share" personal information as those laws define it, so there's nothing to opt out of — but if you have questions, email us at support@splitmoney.app. You won't be discriminated against for exercising any of these rights.
7. Data retention
We keep your information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the Service. If you delete your account, we'll delete or anonymize your personal information within a reasonable period, except where we're required to retain certain information to comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, or enforce our agreements.
Backups. Our database provider takes an encrypted backup of our database once a day and keeps each one for 7 days. So for up to 7 days after you delete something, a copy can still exist in a backup that has not yet aged out. Backups are not used to restore individual records; they exist for disaster recovery.
Subscription scan results. The list of subscriptions a scan found is kept with your account until you remove it or delete your account. The transactions themselves are never stored, so there is nothing to retain and no retention period to state for them. Removing your scan results deletes the list immediately from our active systems; the backup window above applies to it as it does to everything else.
8. Children's privacy
Split is intended for users who are at least 18 years old. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, email us at support@splitmoney.app and we'll take steps to delete it.

10. Future features and mobile apps
We're actively developing Split, including native mobile apps (including for Apple's App Store). As we add features, we may update this policy. Any new feature involving your information will follow the same principles — minimal collection, no selling of your data, and you staying in control.
11. Changes to this policy
If we make material changes, we'll update the "Last updated" date above and notify you through the app or by email when appropriate. Changes take effect when we publish them.
About this version. This version adds the optional subscription scan described in section 1. Because it changes what Split can read from a connected account, we are telling existing users about it directly — in the app and by email — rather than only changing the date at the top. Nothing about the scan is automatic: it does not run unless you turn it on, and if you never do, nothing about how Split handles your information changes.
